Minimalism: Sentimental souvenirs & Gifts

39686658128f3acfb66c162e83080f88This is probably the hardest part of minimalism: to get rid of sentimental stuff and gifts. We all feel bad to throw away presents from loved ones. Those items are meaningful and we see in them good memories.

However, those memories don’t really need those items to be remembered. We are convinced that they will bring us more happiness, but, in reality, they don’t.

You are not your stuff. The memories are in you and not in your things. By letting go of them, you will feel so much lighter and free. You can always take photos and put them in cloud storage like Dropbox. The best part is that those things can be useful to someone else.

For gifts, it’s always better to tell people beforehand that you prefer to not receive presents (food or concert tickets could be nicer options).

L’Avenue

Brunch is probably my favorite part of any day. It’s like the perfect time to relax and just enjoy your meal in company of loved ones or your lovely self. It always feels nice to find time to breathe a little bit in the midst of our hectic schedules.

This time, one of my best friend introduced me to the well-known L’Avenue on Mont-Royal ave. It seems to be very popular for tourists visiting Montreal, which I learned while waiting for more than half an hour to get in. The wait was worth it though.

Minimalism: Office

c3ca575e76607d909b6fc2e84384ff27

To me, it’s important to have a clean and organized workspace in order to focus and work efficiently. Some people work better in a mess. Everyone has their system.

But hey, with a clear space, you also don’t need to tidy up your stuff (kill two birds with one stone). So if you’re a want to keep your desk organized, try these tips:

  • Use cloud storage services like Google Drive, Dropbox to keep all your paperwork that you scanned. It will reduce the number of stacks of documents and you will be able to access them from anywhere (with WiFi).
  • Cancel magazine subscriptions and go for online billing and statements.
  • Try PDF before printing, unless you really need it.
  • Get rid of unnecessary items. There are apps for literally everything: scan, photo, fax, etc.
  • Reduce your office supplies. You don’t need 297482 paperclips.

Start simplifying your life.

Minimalism: Skincare & Make-Up

Photo from The Merry Thought

Make up and skincare products can so easily become uncontrollable. Everything is a must-have and we want to try this and that. However, by downsizing your collection, your routine will become lighter and your skin will be less stressed out by being exposed to less products.

I always believe that it’s best to invest in a few high quality items than splurge in a billion cheap products that don’t last long and are bad quality.

Some tips to get started:

  • Assess your needs: you’ll realize that you don’t need that much and a lot of products were only used once or twice.
  • Make a list of your items.
  • Every time you want to purchase something, give yourself at least 2-3 days to carefully think about it: do you really need it? is it a necessity?
  • Take out everything and throw out expired or products you don’t like. This is especially important to avoid bacteria infections and skin problems.

What if you can save time in the morning, save money and save yourself from headaches and frustrations?

By simplifying your wardrobe and cleaning up your closet, you won’t need to deal with decisions like: what am I going to wear today?

And since the past few years, this trend has been all over the internet from capsule wardrobes, project 333, the Kon Mari method, etc. They’re all good. It all depends on which one you like and fits you the best.
